Surprising My Toddler Made Me Wonder What Surprises God Has for Me

One of my favorite things to do is surprise and delight my toddler.

Now that he’s 3, he understands a little bit more and remembers things too. So if we go somewhere fun, and I ask him if he wants to go back to “that fun trampoline place”, he knows exactly what I’m talking about and gets so excited!

I love to randomly surprise him with a dessert (especially if he hasn’t asked for one in a while and he forgets dessert is a thing lol).

I love letting him know that when he wakes up, he will get to go see one of his favorite people.

Or surprising him with an activity that mom wants to do with him.

On our road trip the other day, I planned a whole set up surprises for him. I had some of his favorite snacks, a couple new toys, and I had planned to set up screen time in the car for him, which he never gets to do in the car.

I couldn’t wait to see his face and how excited he would be for each surprise.

And lately, each time I surprise my son and see the look of absolute pure joy on his face, I stop in my tracks. And I think to myself, my Heavenly Father does the same thing for me.

He knows the surprises that will light me up. And to think how the gifts I love to give my son are just a tiny fraction of what God gives His children.

“Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!” -Matthew 7:9-11

All those surprises I planned for my son and to think that He is doing that for me.

And even greater surprises than I can fathom.

Surprising me just because.

Sometimes for no particular reason other than He loves me, just as I love to surprise my son.

It makes me wonder and eagerly anticipate the surprises the Lord has in store for me.

Much love + I’m rooting for you!
